F.O.C.U.S - Follow One Course Until Successful

Focus is so important and vital to success. It is the foundation to reach success in any endeavour. Focus, however, does not come easy. Focus is like a muscle. Ones focus has to be exercised on a consistent and continual basis to make it strong. Some may say they can not focus or make the excuse they have attention deficit disorders or the like. The truth is that one must develop their ability to focus like any other skill one must practice to get good at it. It would be foolish to say I can not fly a plane because I wasn't born with the knowledge of a pilot. No one is born with the knowledge of anything, The skills are developed, practiced, and exercised. So is any skill that a person posses', it is developed and acquired. It would be just as foolish to say I can not focus because I have an attention deficit as it would be to say I could never fly a plane or be rich...all are acquired skills obtainable by any one individual with dedication and practice. Here are some tips to help you gain the discipline to remain focused on a goal for an extended period of time.

Do not entertain anything that is not in the best interest of obtaining your goal. Anything that collides, conflicts, or interferes with your focus should be avoided or discarded. That can range from beliefs, habits, practices, to patterns, even traditions.

That's right. Just say no. No to putting task off, no to watching television instead of exercising (body or mind), no to that extra slice of pizza. Force yourself to do the things that make you uncomfortable and take you out of your comfort zone. This is what builds the muscle of focus. The discipline to say no to yourself and do the things that maintain the attention towards your goal.

Submerge your mind and body on the subject you are trying to focus on. Live it, eat it, breathe it. You must think of your focus constantly and have a passion for it. Some timey focus will only grant you some timey results.

These are some tips that have helped me to sustain focus. I have noticed over time that practice has increased my ability to focus. Discipline has also played a role in the development of this skill. To focus is hard, especially if it is not particularly an entertaining subject. However, to get any task done it takes discipline to force yourself to keep going.

Once you have completed your task or desired goal you can then move on to the next one. Focusing on one goal at a time will help you to complete it more efficiently and possibly faster. Trying to juggle many different things at once can cause confusion, a mental crash, exhaustion, or little to no progress. We all know a person who does a lot of talking but never really says anything of importance. Well juggling a lot of different task is just like that, a lot of movement but you're most likely getting nothing done. Focus, complete, and move on to the next goal. This is one of the simplest recipes to success and focus is a core ingredient.
